Poonch, February 26,2026- The construction of the PM Critical Care Block at District Hospital Poonch is nearing completion, marking a significant milestone in strengthening healthcare infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir.
The project, being developed under a centrally sponsored scheme at an estimated cost of nearly ₹25 crore, is progressing at a rapid pace and is expected to become operational soon.
Advanced Critical Care Infrastructure
The upcoming block will include:
- 8 fully equipped ICU beds
- A state-of-the-art Public Health Laboratory
- Specialised departments in Cardiology, Neurology, Nephrology, and Psychiatry
Officials said the facility is designed to deliver advanced and timely critical care services within the district, significantly reducing referral cases to tertiary hospitals outside Poonch.
Reducing Medical Travel Burden
For years, patients requiring specialized treatment had to travel to larger cities, often facing logistical and financial challenges. Once functional, the PM Critical Care Block will ensure that residents receive high-quality treatment closer to home, especially during emergencies.
The new infrastructure is also expected to improve response capacity during public health crises and strengthen district-level disease surveillance through the advanced laboratory setup.
Strengthening Rural Healthcare
The project reflects ongoing efforts to bridge healthcare gaps in border and remote districts. By enhancing ICU capacity and introducing specialist services, authorities aim to ensure equitable access to quality healthcare across Jammu & Kashmir.
Healthcare experts believe the addition of the critical care block will not only save lives but also build long-term resilience in the district’s medical ecosystem.
