Srinagar, July 5, 2025: The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Coal, Mines and Steel, chaired by BJP MP Anurag Singh Thakur, met with Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha at Raj Bhawan in Srinagar on Saturday. The meeting, part of the committee’s study visit to the Union Territory from July 5-10, focused on discussions regarding coal, mining, and steel operations in the region.The committee, comprising several prominent MPs, congratulated LG Sinha for the progressive reforms and policies implemented in Jammu and Kashmir, highlighting their positive impact on regional development.

The interaction emphasized the need to counter misinformation and promote the region’s growth, particularly in the context of recent security challenges, including the Pahalgam terror attack.Upon arrival in Srinagar, the committee engaged with representatives from various organizations involved in coal, mines, and steel sectors to discuss critical issues. The delegation is also scheduled to visit key sites related to these industries for an on-the-spot review, underscoring their commitment to a comprehensive assessment.The visit, part of a broader study tour that includes stops in Mumbai and Coorg, aims to address regional development, security concerns, and the impact of terrorism on civilian life and tourism. The committee’s itinerary also includes a visit to the site of the recent terror attack in Baisaran Valley, Pahalgam, as a confidence-building measure by the Government of India.LG Sinha expressed his appreciation for the opportunity to interact with the committee, stating, “It was wonderful to engage with the members of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Coal, Mines and Steel at Raj Bhawan, Srinagar, earlier today.” The discussions are expected to contribute to the committee’s report to Parliament, focusing on enhancing the mining and steel sectors in Jammu and Kashmir.
