Srinagar, June 21, 2025 – Paras Health Srinagar, a premier super specialty hospital in Jammu and Kashmir, proudly inaugurated its state-of-the-art Mother and Baby Care Department today, coinciding with the 11th International Yoga Day. The launch, held at the hospital’s Dalgate facility, marks a significant step toward enhancing maternal health, neonatal care, and wellness for mothers and infants across Kashmir, aligning with the global theme “Yoga for One Earth, One Health.”
The new department features advanced infrastructure, including neonatal intensive care units (NICUs), modern labor and delivery suites, and specialized obstetrics and gynecology services. Staffed by a dedicated team of gynecologists, pediatricians, neonatologists, and skilled nurses, the facility is designed to provide compassionate, high-quality healthcare tailored to the needs of mothers and newborns. This initiative addresses the region’s demand for accessible, specialized care, reducing the need for families to seek treatment outside Kashmir.
Dr. Santy Sajan, Group COO of Paras Health, officiated the inauguration, stating, “Our Mother and Baby Care Department is a milestone in our mission to deliver affordable and accessible healthcare. We are committed to supporting the health and well-being of mothers and infants in Srinagar with world-class facilities and compassionate care.” The hospital’s 200-bedded infrastructure, including 64 ICU beds and six modular operating theaters, complements the new department, reinforcing its role as a leading multispecialty hospital with Centers of Excellence in cardiology, oncology, neurosciences, and orthopedics.
The launch event integrated the spirit of International Yoga Day 2025, with a special health awareness session focusing on prenatal yoga to promote physical well-being and stress relief for expectant mothers. This resonated with the region-wide celebrations, including a mass yoga event at the High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) in Gulmarg, where Indian Army personnel practiced yoga asanas to enhance physical fitness and mental clarity. J&K Cabinet Minister Sakina Itoo, speaking at a yoga event at SKICC Srinagar, praised the growing health awareness in Kashmir. “Yoga brings peace, relaxes the body, and balances the mind—everyone should devote 10–15 minutes daily,” she said, commending the Health Department for promoting yoga and Ayurveda. She highlighted the increasing adoption of walking and wellness practices among women and elders, reflecting a shift toward holistic living.
Local resident Shazia Mir, a prospective patient, shared her excitement: “Having a dedicated mother and baby care facility in Srinagar is a blessing. Knowing that Paras Health prioritizes quality and compassion gives us peace of mind.” The department is poised to serve over 1.5 lakh patients annually, strengthening Paras Health’s role as a cornerstone of Kashmir’s healthcare ecosystem.
The inauguration was attended by healthcare professionals, community leaders, and local residents, with media outlets like Greater Kashmir and Kashmir Uzma covering the event. Paras Health Srinagar plans to further its community impact through health camps and Continuing Medical Education (CME) programs, fostering health awareness and professional development in the region.
