KISHTWAR/SRINAGAR, April 16, 2025: A minor earthquake measuring 2.4 on the Richter scale jolted Kishtwar district in Jammu and Kashmir at 5:14 AM IST, as reported by the National Centre for Seismology . The tremor, with its epicentre at Latitude 33.18 N and Longitude 75.89 E at a depth of 5 kilometers, caused no reported damage or injuries due to its low intensity. The NCS shared on X, “EQ of M: 2.4, On: 16/04/2025 05:14:52 IST, Lat: 33.18 N, Long: 75.89 E, Depth: 5 Km, Location: Kishtwar, Jammu & Kashmir.” Kishtwar, part of the seismically active Chenab Valley, lies in a high-risk seismic zone, prompting calls for earthquake-resistant infrastructure.
On the same day, Chief Minister Omar Abdullah launched the e-SeHAT App at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre in Srinagar, a digital platform designed to revolutionise healthcare access across Jammu and Kashmir. The app, integrated with the AB-PMJAY-SEHAT scheme, offers tele-consultation, online doctor appointments, and digital health records, benefiting citizens, doctors, and medical professionals. ” The app supports the SEHAT Golden Card, enabling cashless treatment up to ₹5 lakh per family at empanelled hospitals.
The e-SeHAT App, featured in the 2025-26 J&K Budget, introduces AI-based tele-medical services to reduce urban hospital strain and enhance rural healthcare access. With over 30 lakh residents registered under AB-PMJAY-SEHAT, the app is a cornerstone of the National Conference-led government’s healthcare reforms, alongside initiatives like increased medical budgets and AI-powered diagnostic tools. Local leaders praised the move, with Rahul Sahai of the Indian Chamber of Commerce noting its potential to strengthen healthcare delivery.
While the minor quake underscores the need for seismic vigilance, the e-SeHAT App launch signals a leap toward a digitally empowered healthcare system, addressing both immediate and long-term needs of Jammu and Kashmir’s residents. Authorities urge downloading the BhooKamp App for earthquake updates and the e-SeHAT App for healthcare services.
