Srinagar, May 8, 2025 – Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah convened another high-level meeting today with Deputy Commissioners (DCs) of border districts to assess the ground situation and streamline the provision of essential facilities. The meeting, held via video conferencing, focused on addressing the challenges posed by escalating tensions along the Line of Control and the International Border due to recent cross-border shelling incidents.
The discussions emphasised coordinated efforts to ensure seamless access to critical services, including food supplies, medical assistance, and emergency infrastructure, for residents in vulnerable border areas. This follows an emergency meeting held on May 7, where Abdullah allocated contingency funds of Rs 5 crore to each border district and Rs 2 crore to other districts to equip DCs with resources to manage exigencies.
Key priorities outlined during the meeting included strengthening shelters and bunkers, maintaining adequate stocks of food and medical supplies, and ensuring the availability of ambulances, doctors, and paramedics in districts such as Jammu, Poonch, Rajouri, Kathua, Samba, Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora. The Chief Minister also stressed the importance of countering misinformation, urging the public to rely on verified official sources.
The meeting comes amid heightened tensions following a terrorist attack on tourists in Jammu and Kashmir on April 24, 2025, which India attributes to Pakistan-sponsored groups, sparking armed skirmishes and missile strikes. The administration’s proactive measures aim to mitigate risks and provide robust support to affected communities.
