NVIDIA’s deep learning workshop at SKUAST-K empowers Kashmir’s youth for agritech future

Srinagar, April 19, 2025 – While the world buzzes about artificial intelligence, Kashmir is taking bold strides to embrace it. A two-day NVIDIA Deep Learning Ambassador Workshop, held on April 17–18 at Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology , equipped students with cutting-edge skills in deep learning, neural networks, and agritech innovation. Led by Dr. Ambreen Hamadani, an NVIDIA-certified instructor and Assistant Professor at SKUAST-K, the event marked a significant leap for the region’s technological and agricultural transformation.

Organized by NVIDIA in collaboration with SKUAST-K’s Animal/Plant Modelling Lab and Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning (CAIML), the workshop immersed participants in the fundamentals of deep learning. Students explored convolutional neural networks (CNNs), implemented data augmentation, deployed pre-trained models, and examined advanced architectures, gaining hands-on experience with AI tools poised to revolutionize agriculture. The training aimed to bridge academic learning with practical applications, preparing students to tackle real-world challenges in precision farming, crop monitoring, and sustainable agriculture.

“This workshop is a milestone for Kashmir’s youth, empowering them to harness AI for smarter agriculture,” said Dr. Ambreen Hamadani. Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice Chancellor of SKUAST-K, lauded the initiative during the inaugural session, calling it a “transformative step toward integrating technology into agriculture and positioning Kashmir as a hub for innovation.” He emphasized SKUAST-K’s commitment to fostering disruptive technologies like AI and machine learning, aligning with the vision of a “Badalta Kashmir” ready for the Fourth Industrial Revolution.

The workshop reflects SKUAST-K’s ongoing efforts to advance agritech, building on previous programs like the 2022 national training on computer vision in agriculture and drone technology workshops with AVPL International. Participants, including students and researchers, praised the hands-on approach, with one attendee noting on X, “Kashmiri students are stepping into the AI era, ready to shape the future of farming.” The event also garnered attention for showcasing Kashmir’s ambition to lead in tech-driven agriculture, with posts on X hailing it as a symbol of a progressive, innovative region.

NVIDIA, a global leader in AI and accelerated computing, continues to support such initiatives to nurture talent in emerging markets. The workshop’s success underscores SKUAST-K’s role as a torchbearer for AI in Jammu and Kashmir, fostering a generation of innovators equipped to transform the agri-economy. As Kashmir embraces neural networks and agritech, the region is poised to redefine its future with ambition and technological prowess.
