Srinagar, April 4, 2025: In response to the surging demand for scenic rail travel in the Kashmir Valley, Northern Railway has introduced a Vistadome special train service connecting Banihal and Budgam. Commencing April 5, 2025, this initiative aims to enhance passenger experiences and promote tourism by offering panoramic views of the region’s breathtaking landscapes.
The Vistadome train, operating as train numbers 04687 and 04688 will run six days a week, excluding Fridays, until June 3, 2025, covering a total of 52 trips in each direction. Designed for comfort and scenic immersion, the train features glass-domed coaches with wide windows, revolving seats, and a glass roof, allowing passengers to soak in 360-degree views of the valley’s snow-capped peaks, orchards, and fields.
The train departs Budgam at 8:35 AM, making stops at Srinagar, Awantipura, Anantnag, and Qazigund before reaching Banihal at 10:40 AM. The return journey starts from Banihal at 6:40 PM, arriving back in Budgam by 8:20 PM. Covering a distance of approximately 90 kilometers in under two hours, the service is tailored to suit tourists exploring Kashmir’s iconic destinations.
Priced at ₹940 for a one-way ticket and ₹1,880 for a round trip, the Vistadome coach accommodates 40 passengers per trip, ensuring an intimate and comfortable journey. Tickets can be booked via the IRCTC website, mobile app, or at railway station counters, with early reservations recommended during peak tourist seasons.
Railway officials emphasised that the service aligns with efforts to bolster rail tourism in Jammu and Kashmir. “The Vistadome train offers an unparalleled opportunity to experience the natural splendour of Kashmir, from apple orchards to the Pir Panjal Range,” said a Northern Railway spokesperson. The initiative is expected to ease travel demand while supporting local economies through increased tourist footfall.
Since its inaugural run in October 2023, flagged off by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, the Vistadome service has gained popularity for its state-of-the-art amenities, including ergonomic seating, automatic sliding doors, and GPS-based information systems. The extension of this service underscores Northern Railway’s commitment to modernising rail infrastructure and enhancing connectivity in the region.
As Kashmir continues to attract visitors year-round, the Banihal-Budgam Vistadome train promises to be a highlight for travelers seeking a blend of adventure, comfort, and unforgettable vistas. Passengers are encouraged to book early to secure their spot on this scenic journey through one of India’s most picturesque regions.
