Srinagar, Jammu and Kashmir, September 8, 2025: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) launched simultaneous searches at 22 locations across five states—Bihar, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Uttar Pradesh—and the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, targeting a terror conspiracy case. In J&K, raids are underway in Baramulla, Kulgam, Anantnag, and Pulwama districts, focusing on suspected anti-national networks involved in terror financing, recruitment, and cross-border coordination. The operation, registered under case number RC-1/2025/NIA/CHE, was initiated based on actionable intelligence and is being conducted in close coordination with state police forces. In J&K, nine locations are under scrutiny, while eight sites in Bihar, two in Uttar Pradesh, and one each in Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Tamil Nadu are also being searched. NIA teams are targeting residences and premises of individuals suspected of links to terror networks aiming to destabilise law and order, officials said.
The raids follow the Ministry of Home Affairs’ directive to the NIA due to the case’s national security implications. The agency suspects the network is engaged in efforts to foment unrest, with investigations focusing on uncovering evidence of terror financing, recruitment modules, and coordination with handlers across borders. No immediate reports of arrests or detentions have emerged, and further details are awaited. This operation aligns with the central government’s zero-tolerance policy toward terrorism, with the NIA intensifying its crackdown on terror funding and sleeper cells nationwide. The raids coincide with heightened security measures in J&K, including an ongoing encounter in Kulgam’s Gudar forest, where a terrorist was killed and a Junior Commissioned Officer injured, underscoring the region’s volatile security landscape.
