New resting area at Ardhkuwari to welcome 1500 pilgrims this chaitra navratri

Katra, March 25, 2025 – As Chaitra Navratri approaches, a state-of-the-art all-weather covered resting area is being prepared at Ardhkuwari to accommodate up to 1500 pilgrims, enhancing their spiritual journey along the Vaishno Devi pilgrimage route. Set to be operational from the start of this year’s Chaitra Navratri on March 30, this facility promises to elevate the experience for yatris with modern amenities tailored to their needs.

Nestled midway on the trek to the Vaishno Devi shrine in Jammu and Kashmir, Ardhkuwari is a key stop for devotees. The new resting area, designed to withstand diverse weather conditions, features a water ATM for clean hydration, a Prasad kiosk offering sacred offerings, and a refreshment unit to provide sustenance during the arduous pilgrimage. These additions aim to ensure pilgrim comfort while maintaining the sanctity of the spiritual journey.

The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board is overseeing the project, with officials stating that the facility will also include a live telecast of the Garbhjoon Aarti, allowing yatris to connect with the divine rituals even while resting. “This all-weather covered space reflects our commitment to pilgrim welfare,” said an SMVDSB spokesperson. “With Chaitra Navratri drawing thousands, we’re ensuring a seamless and enriched experience.”

Chaitra Navratri, a nine-day festival honoring Goddess Durga, begins March 30 and attracts hordes of devotees to the Vaishno Devi temple. The resting area’s debut aligns with this sacred period, offering respite amid the rugged terrain. Local authorities anticipate that the facility will ease congestion and enhance safety, particularly during peak pilgrimage seasons.

Pilgrims have welcomed the initiative, with many citing the need for better infrastructure. “The water ATM and refreshment unit will make a huge difference,” said Ravi Sharma, a frequent yatri from Jammu. “It’s a thoughtful step for our comfort.” The project also underscores broader efforts in Jammu and Kashmir to bolster spiritual tourism, blending tradition with modern convenience.

As the region prepares for Chaitra Navratri, the Ardhkuwari resting area stands as a testament to improving pilgrim facilities, ensuring that the journey to the divine remains both accessible and memorable.
