Kathmandu, Nepal, April 26, 2025 – Hundreds of Nepali citizens, led by youth and political groups, protested outside the Pakistan Embassy in Kathmandu to denounce the Pahalgam terror attack that killed 26 tourists, including 25 Indian citizens and one Nepali national, on April 22, 2025. The attack, in Baisaran Meadow, Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, was claimed by a Pakistan-based terrorist group, escalating regional tensions.
Protesters, holding placards and chanting slogans like “Down with terrorism” and “Punish the attackers,” demanded justice and accused Pakistan of sponsoring cross-border terrorism. The demonstration focused on the Nepali victim, a young man from Butwal, killed after identifying as Hindu, with his injured mother receiving treatment. Calls were made to shut down the embassy.
The Pahalgam attack, among the deadliest in Kashmir in decades, targeted a scenic tourist spot, shattering its safe image. India’s leadership vowed to pursue the perpetrators, accusing Pakistan of involvement. India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, closed the Attari-Wagah border, and downgraded diplomatic ties. Nepal’s government condemned the attack as “cruel and inhuman,” expressing solidarity with India and coordinating to repatriate the Nepali victim’s body and assist his mother.
Protests gained global attention via X, reflecting support for India and Nepal’s anti-terrorism stance. India’s security forces intensified operations, busting a terrorist hideout and recovering weapons, while pursuing seven suspected attackers, including several from Pakistan. Global leaders and the UN Security Council condemned the “reprehensible act,” urging accountability.
