National Cooperative Mahotsav concludes cooperative week celebrations in Jammu

Jammu, July 6,2026-The Department of Cooperative Societies, Jammu, on Sunday organised the National Cooperative Mahotsav, marking the grand finale of the seven-day Cooperative Week Celebrations at the Kisan Kendra, Directorate of Agriculture, Jammu. The event brought together officials, representatives of Primary Agricultural Credit Societies (PACS), Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs), cooperative federations, dairy cooperatives, and other stakeholders to celebrate the achievements of the cooperative movement and reaffirm their commitment to the vision of “Sahkar Se Samriddhi.”

Additional Registrar Cooperative Societies Jammu Bal Krishan attended the event as the Chief Guest, while Director Agriculture Jammu Anil Gupta was the Guest of Honour. Other dignitaries included Joint Registrar Cooperative Societies and Nodal Officer for Cooperative Week Preeti Sharma, Deputy Registrar Cooperative Societies Jammu Bhawani Atri, Chairman of the Jammu & Kashmir Dairy Cooperative Federation (JKDCF) Vikrant Dogra, and Managing Director of the Jammu & Kashmir Milk Producers’ Cooperative Limited (JKMPCL) Mushtaq Ahmed.

Welcoming the participants, Preeti Sharma highlighted the significance of the National Cooperative Mahotsav as the culmination of the week-long celebrations. She said cooperatives have become a powerful tool for empowering farmers, women, and rural communities through collective action, capacity building, and sustainable development.

Speaking on the occasion, Bal Krishan congratulated the department for successfully organising the Cooperative Week and appreciated the active participation of cooperative institutions throughout the programme. He emphasised that cooperatives play a crucial role in strengthening the rural economy and called for greater innovation, transparency, and professional management to build self-reliant cooperative institutions.

Director Agriculture Jammu Anil Gupta stressed the strong linkage between agriculture and the cooperative sector, calling for coordinated efforts among government departments, PACS, FPOs, and cooperative institutions to enhance farmers’ income, promote value addition, and ensure sustainable agricultural development.

The programme featured technical sessions and interactive discussions focusing on strengthening PACS, FPOs, dairy cooperatives, and cooperative federations through capacity building, digital transformation, market linkages, value addition, and good governance.

A major highlight of the event was the felicitation of outstanding cooperative societies and stakeholders for their exemplary contributions to the cooperative movement in Jammu and Kashmir. Participants also shared their experiences on leveraging the cooperative model to promote inclusive growth and rural prosperity. A representative of IFFCO encouraged farmers to reduce dependence on conventional fertilizers and adopt innovative alternatives to improve productivity and soil health.

The National Cooperative Mahotsav concluded the week-long celebrations, which included seminars, awareness campaigns, exhibitions, plantation drives, health initiatives, training programmes, and stakeholder interactions held across the Jammu Division to strengthen grassroots cooperative institutions.

The Department of Cooperative Societies reiterated its commitment to further strengthening the cooperative movement in Jammu and Kashmir through continuous capacity building, institutional reforms, and collaborative initiatives aimed at the socio-economic empowerment of farmers, women, youth, and rural communities.
