Mushroom Farming showing great promise in Kashmir

The mushroom farming initiative, under the HADP , is showing great promise at the farmer’s shed. The shed itself is a significant investment, costing approximately Rs. 3,00,000, of which a substantial subsidy of Rs. 1.5 lakh has been provided, easing the financial burden on the farmer.

At present, the farmer has successfully cultivated 300 of our mushroom plants during the autumn season. This is a critical time in the mushroom farming cycle, and the attention to detail has been commendable. The casing process, which is essential for the growth of mushrooms, has been carried out to perfection, ensuring that the environment is conducive for the mushrooms to thrive. In the coming days, the mushrooms will undergo the crucial phase of “colouring,” which is expected to be completed within the next 10 days. Once the pinheads (young mushrooms) appear, the crop will begin to mature. Within 15 to 20 days from now, the first harvest of mushrooms will be ready.

The farm is well-equipped with a high-quality shed, providing an ideal controlled environment for mushroom cultivation. It is worth noting that the farmer does not rely solely on mushrooms for income but has diversified his business by also working with fruits.
