Mir Sarwar hails J&K film policy at SKAIIFF

Srinagar, November 07, 2025: Renowned Bollywood actor from Kashmir, Mir Sarwar, known for his roles in films like Bajrangi Bhaijaan, Kesari, and Jolly LLB 2, shared valuable insights on the Jammu and Kashmir Film Policy during an interview at the ongoing 5th Kashmir World Film Festival (SKAIIFF) in Srinagar.Speaking to Gulistan News TV, Sarwar, dressed in a stylish leather jacket and scarf, emphasized the transformative impact of the policy in reviving cinema in the Valley. He highlighted how the new incentives and supportive measures have encouraged more film shootings, boosted local talent, and opened doors for Kashmiri artists in the industry.Sarwar praised the government’s efforts to make Kashmir a filmmaker-friendly destination again, noting that the policy has paved the way for increased productions, employment opportunities, and promotion of regional stories. He expressed optimism about the growth of independent filmmaking and the potential for Kashmiri-language projects to gain global recognition.

The actor, who has long advocated for a thriving film ecosystem in his homeland, also directed films like Bed No. 17 and contributed to initiatives supporting local cinema without fees. His comments come amid the festival’s celebration of diverse films, including international submissions and screenings in multiple Indian languages.Sarwar’s insights underscore the policy’s role in bridging Bollywood with Kashmir, fostering tourism through cinema, and empowering youth in the creative sector. Similar sentiments have been echoed in his previous interviews, where he dreamed of a full-fledged Kashmiri film industry creating jobs and showcasing authentic narratives. The SKAIIFF, running from November 1 to 7 at Tagore Hall, features confirmed participants like Mir Sarwar alongside other Kashmiri talents, promoting cultural exchange and the power of cinema.
