Srinagar, April 2, 2025: The Meteorological Department has forecast rainy and cloudy weather across Jammu and Kashmir on April 3, with light snowfall expected in the higher reaches of North Kashmir, including the Sonamarg-Zojila axis. The weather update indicates a brief spell of precipitation influenced by a Western Disturbance, bringing much-needed moisture to the region.
According to MeT officials, the weather in Jammu and Kashmir will remain mostly dry until April 7, except for April 3, when cloudy skies are expected to dominate, accompanied by light rain in the plains and snow in elevated areas. The forecast advises travelers and farmers to plan accordingly, particularly in North Kashmir, where slippery road conditions may pose challenges. Key areas such as Sonamarg and the Zojila Pass could see light snow accumulation, potentially affecting transportation.
The MeT department also noted that another Western Disturbance is likely to impact the Union Territory from April 8 to 11, bringing cloudy conditions with chances of light rain and snow at scattered places, along with possible thundershowers and gusty winds in parts of Jammu and Kashmir. Residents are urged to stay updated on weather advisories during this period.
This forecast comes after a relatively dry spell in the region, which had raised concerns about water scarcity earlier in the year. The anticipated precipitation, though light, is expected to provide some relief to local farmers and replenish water sources. Authorities have advised caution for those traveling through high-altitude areas prone to snow and rain-induced disruptions.
