Kashmir Ahead

Kulgam, March 11,2026- In a significant step towards strengthening environmental conservation and increasing green cover, the Forest Department Kulgam has launched a mega plantation drive in the Pir Panjal range under Mission Green J&K. The initiative aims to restore forest cover, promote ecological balance, and encourage active participation from local communities in protecting forests.

As part of the drive, the department has also begun distributing free conifer saplings among residents, farmers, and community groups. Species such as deodar, kail, and fir are being provided to promote plantation in suitable areas across the district.

Officials from the Forest Department said the campaign is designed not only to enhance greenery but also to raise awareness about the importance of forests in maintaining biodiversity, preventing soil erosion, and combating climate change. The Pir Panjal range, known for its rich forest resources, has been identified as a priority area for plantation and ecological restoration.

Local residents and volunteers have shown enthusiastic participation in the drive, planting saplings in forest areas and nearby villages. The department has urged people to take responsibility for nurturing the plants to ensure long-term survival and sustainable forest growth.

Forest officials highlighted that Mission Green J&K focuses on community-driven conservation efforts and aims to expand forest cover while promoting environmental awareness among the public.

The plantation campaign will continue in the coming weeks with more saplings to be distributed and plantation activities planned in different parts of Kulgam district.
