Shopian, May 22, 2026- South Kashmir’s Shopian district is all set to host a major anti-drug Pad Yatra tomorrow as part of the ongoing “Drug-Free J&K” campaign being spearheaded by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
The awareness march aims to strengthen the fight against drug abuse and encourage youth participation in building a healthier and drug-free society across Jammu and Kashmir.
Deputy Commissioner Shopian Shishir Gupta has urged people from all walks of life to participate in the Pad Yatra and support the administration’s anti-drug initiative. He said the campaign is not only about enforcement but also about creating awareness and mobilising society against the growing menace of substance abuse.
Officials said all necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure smooth participation during the event. Security, medical assistance, drinking water facilities, and logistical support have been arranged for participants expected to join the awareness rally in large numbers.
The Pad Yatra will witness participation from students, youth groups, government departments, civil society members, sports organisations, and local residents. The event is expected to spread awareness about the harmful effects of drugs and promote collective responsibility towards safeguarding the future of young generations.
The “Drug-Free J&K” campaign has been witnessing active participation across districts, with awareness programmes, sports activities, counselling sessions, and anti-drug drives being organised regularly under the guidance of the Lieutenant Governor-led administration.
Officials said such public outreach initiatives are essential to encourage community participation and strengthen the larger mission of eliminating drug abuse from society.
