Budgam, May 5,2026-Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today participated in a padyatra in Budgam, reinforcing the administration’s intensified campaign against drug abuse across Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor called upon every family, social organization, as well as spiritual and political leaders in the district to actively contribute towards eliminating the growing drug menace.
Sinha emphasized that the fight against drugs requires a united and sustained effort at all levels of society. He assured the public that every arm of the administration is fully committed and working with its complete strength to eradicate narcotics from the region.
In a significant announcement, the Lieutenant Governor introduced the concept of an informal ‘Parents Brigade’ in every village and urban locality wherever feasible. The initiative aims to create a voluntary network of parents who will be trained and empowered to identify early signs of drug use among youth and promptly connect affected families with appropriate support systems and resources.
Highlighting the importance of early intervention, Sinha said that community vigilance and parental involvement are key to preventing addiction and safeguarding the future of young people. He also urged citizens to actively participate in awareness drives and support rehabilitation efforts.
The padyatra witnessed participation from local residents, youth groups, officials, and civil society members, all united in their resolve to build a drug-free Budgam. The initiative is part of a broader campaign to strengthen grassroots-level action against substance abuse in Jammu and Kashmir.
