Man on a mission: Manzoor Wangnoo leads NLCO team to restore 11th spring in Srinagar

Srinagar, March 05, 2025 – Under the determined leadership of Manzoor Ahmad Wangnoo, fondly known as the “Man on a Mission” and Chairman of the Nigeen Lake Conservation Organisation (NLCO), a collaborative effort has been launched to restore the 11th spring in the Kashmir Valley. Teaming up with the Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) and the NGO Kashmir Concern, this initiative reflects Wangnoo’s unrelenting drive to revive the region’s dying water bodies, preserving Kashmir’s natural heritage for generations to come.

Wangnoo’s mission builds on NLCO’s legacy of environmental stewardship, a cause he has championed for years. Recently honored as the “Best Water Warrior” by the Ministry of Jal Shakti during Republic Day celebrations in New Delhi, the “Man on a Mission” expressed heartfelt gratitude to his team, the SMC, and supportive stakeholders for their unwavering commitment. This latest project follows the successful restoration of a spring at Shalbaf Mohalla in Anchar Soura, Srinagar, on February 27, 2025, showcasing the group’s persistent efforts in ecological conservation.

The collaboration has earned praise from local activists and residents, with special thanks extended to comrade Azhar Hussain for his steadfast on-ground support. Wangnoo, ever the “Man on a Mission,” emphasized the power of collective action, stating, “Restoring our water bodies is not just about preservation—it’s about ensuring a sustainable future for Kashmir.”

With water security and environmental degradation pressing concerns in the region, this initiative highlights the vital role of community-driven efforts. The NLCO, SMC, and Kashmir Concern, led by Wangnoo’s mission-focused vision, remain committed to expanding their restoration projects, breathing new life into Kashmir’s natural treasures.
