LG Manoj Sinha unveils ‘Saptrishi Calendar’ and ‘Shardha Mata’s LED 3D desktop Pratima at Raj Bhawan

Jammu, April 01, 2025 – Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha today released the ‘Saptrishi Calendar’ and unveiled ‘Shardha Mata’s LED 3D Desktop Pratima’ at Raj Bhawan, marking a significant cultural event in Jammu and Kashmir. The ceremony, held on the eve of the auspicious Saptrishi-5101 Samvat , celebrated the rich heritage and spiritual traditions of the Kashmiri Pandit community.

The event saw the Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha extending his heartfelt congratulations to Kiran Wattal, Convenor of Vishwa Kashmiri Samaj, along with various social organisations, for their collective efforts in commemorating this milestone. Navreh, the Kashmiri Hindu New Year, is rooted in the ancient Saptrishi Samvat, a lunisolar calendar system that reflects the region’s deep historical and astronomical legacy.

The ‘Saptrishi Calendar’ serves as a vital cultural artifact, guiding the community through the year with key dates and festivals, while the ‘Shardha Mata’s LED 3D Desktop Pratima’—a modern rendition of the revered deity Sharada—blends tradition with innovation. This illuminated figurine, complete with intricate detailing, symbolizes devotion and reverence for the goddess, historically worshipped as the patron of knowledge and wisdom in Kashmir.

Addressing the gathering, LG Sinha emphasized the importance of preserving cultural identity and fostering unity through such initiatives. “Navreh is a time of renewal and reflection, and it is heartening to see the community come together to honor its traditions,” he said. He lauded the Vishwa Kashmiri Samaj for its role in promoting Kashmiri heritage, both within the region and across the diaspora.

The unveiling ceremony was attended by prominent members of the Kashmiri Pandit community and representatives of social organizations, who expressed gratitude for the administration’s support. Kiran Wattal, in his remarks, highlighted the significance of the occasion, noting that Saptrishi-5101 Samvat represents a continuity of over five millennia of Kashmiri history. “This is not just a calendar release; it’s a reaffirmation of our roots and resilience,” he stated.

The event aligns with broader efforts by the Jammu and Kashmir administration to encourage cultural preservation and the return of Kashmiri Pandits to their homeland. LG Sinha’s participation underscores the government’s commitment to supporting such initiatives, which resonate deeply with the community’s aspirations.

As the region welcomes the new year under the Saptrishi Samvat, the release of the calendar and the unveiling of the LED 3D Pratima serve as powerful symbols of faith, heritage, and hope for a vibrant future. The celebrations are expected to continue across Jammu and Kashmir, with Navreh festivities drawing participation from families and devotees alike.
