LG Manoj Sinha to inaugurate New Indoor Stadium in Shopian

Shopian, May 14,2026- South Kashmir’s Shopian district witnessed a landmark moment in sports development as Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha inaugurated the newly built Multipurpose Indoor Stadium at Arihama and officially launched the South Kashmir Volleyball League 2026.

The four-day tournament has brought together volleyball teams from six districts, including national-level champions and emerging young athletes, turning Shopian into a vibrant sporting hub. The event is being seen as a major step toward strengthening sports culture and youth participation in Jammu & Kashmir.

The state-of-the-art indoor stadium at Arihama is expected to provide modern sports facilities, training opportunities, and a professional platform for aspiring players from the region. Officials said the infrastructure will help nurture local talent and encourage greater involvement in indoor sports.

The Volleyball League is also carrying a strong social message under the slogan, “Maine Nasha Nahin, Khel Chuna” (I Chose Sports, Not Drugs), promoting sports as a positive alternative to substance abuse among youth. The initiative aligns with the ongoing anti-drug awareness campaigns being conducted across Jammu & Kashmir.

Addressing the gathering, LG Manoj Sinha reiterated the administration’s commitment to empowering youth through sports, education, and skill development. He highlighted that sporting activities not only build discipline and teamwork but also contribute to creating a healthier and drug-free society.

Large numbers of sports enthusiasts, local residents, players, and officials attended the opening ceremony, reflecting growing enthusiasm for sports in South Kashmir. Organisers said the league aims to inspire young people to pursue excellence in athletics while fostering unity and positive community engagement.

The South Kashmir Volleyball League 2026 is expected to emerge as an important annual sporting event, boosting grassroots volleyball and strengthening the region’s sporting ecosystem.
