Srinagar, July 26:On the occasion of the 26th Kargil Vijay Diwas, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha paid heartfelt tributes to the brave soldiers who laid down their lives during the Kargil War of 1999. The solemn ceremony was held at the War Memorial in Srinagar, where the LG, accompanied by senior officials and military personnel, honored the supreme sacrifices made by India’s armed forces.
Speaking at the event, LG Sinha said, “We salute the valor, courage, and patriotism of our soldiers who defended the sovereignty of the nation during the Kargil conflict. Their sacrifice will forever remain etched in the nation’s memory.”
He further emphasized the importance of remembering the legacy of the Kargil heroes, particularly among the youth, to instill a deep sense of national pride and unity. The event featured a wreath-laying ceremony, patriotic performances, and interaction with the families of fallen soldiers.
Ceremonies and events were also held across Jammu and Kashmir, especially in border districts like Drass, Kargil, and Leh, where large gatherings paid homage to the martyrs and veterans of the Indian Army.
Kargil Vijay Diwas, observed every year on July 26, marks India’s victory over Pakistan in the 1999 Kargil conflict and honours the indomitable spirit of Indian soldiers who fought in extreme conditions in the high-altitude terrain of Ladakh.
