In a significant move toward inclusive development, Jammu & Kashmir LG Manoj Sinha announced the disbursement of over ₹6 crores to more than 19,000 Divyangjan in Jammu and Kashmir. The initiative, launched on June 6, 2025, addresses a critical gap in pension distribution caused by incomplete Aadhaar screening, aiming to restore financial support and improve access to essential services for the affected individuals. LG Manoj Sinha emphasised the administration’s dedication to empowering every section of society. “Today, more than ₹6 crores have been distributed to those whose Aadhaar screening was not done and their pensions were not passed. Assistance has been provided to more than 19,000 Divyangjan. It will bring a significant change in their lives,” he stated. The pension amount was disbursed through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT), ensuring a transparent and efficient delivery mechanism that minimizes delays and intermediaries. Alongside the pension distribution, LG Manoj Sinha also inaugurated a mass distribution drive of assistive devices for Divyangjan. The event, organized by the Directorate of Social Welfare, Jammu, under the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana and the Assistance to Disabled Persons (ADIP) schemes, included the provision of wheelchairs, hearing aids, motorized scooters, and other essential aids. These devices are intended to enhance mobility, independence, and overall quality of life for specially-abled individuals and senior citizens. “This reflects our belief in the unique abilities and resilience of Divyangjan, ensuring equality and accessibility for all,” LG Manoj Sinha remarked. The initiative is part of a broader commitment by the Jammu and Kashmir administration to uplift and empower the specially-abled community. Since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, significant progress has been made in streamlining welfare services. Over 176,000 Unique Disability ID (UDID) certificates have been issued, improving access to benefits and government schemes. The administration has also achieved near-100% saturation in distributing motorised scooters and has established a temporary Composite Regional Centre (CRC) in Jammu to provide skill development and rehabilitation services. LG Manoj Sinha has consistently championed the cause of Divyangjan. At the Purple Fest 2025 held in March, he called for inclusive education and skills training programs and urged stakeholders to ensure that specially-abled individuals are given equal opportunities in all spheres of life. He has also requested the Government of India to organise mega camps in both Jammu and Kashmir divisions to further expand support. The ₹6-crore pension disbursal and the large-scale distribution of assistive devices underscore the administration’s commitment to social equity and empowerment. By addressing Aadhaar-related delays and providing direct, meaningful support, the government is not only restoring financial security but also reaffirming the dignity, potential, and rightful place of Divyangjan in Jammu and Kashmir’s growth story
