Pahalgam, June 25,2026- Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday conducted a detailed inspection of the Nunwan Base Camp in Pahalgam to review on-ground preparations and facilities being put in place for the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra.
Accompanied by senior civil administration, police, security, health, and other departmental officials, the Lieutenant Governor assessed the readiness of various facilities aimed at ensuring a safe, comfortable, and seamless pilgrimage experience for devotees undertaking the annual journey to the Holy Amarnath Cave Shrine.
During the visit, Manoj Sinha inspected key infrastructure and amenities at the base camp, including accommodation facilities, sanitation arrangements, healthcare services, drinking water supply, power infrastructure, security deployment, communication networks, and emergency response systems. Officials briefed him on the progress of works and preparedness measures being undertaken to facilitate the smooth movement and stay of pilgrims.
Emphasizing the importance of pilgrim welfare, the Lieutenant Governor directed all departments to maintain the highest standards of service delivery and ensure that every facility is fully operational before the commencement of the yatra.
“Ensuring a safe and comfortable journey for pilgrims remains our top priority. We conducted a detailed inspection and review of all amenities to provide a smooth, comfortable, and welcoming experience for the devotees of Baba Barfani,” the Lieutenant Governor said during the visit.
Officials informed the Lieutenant Governor that comprehensive arrangements have been made at the Nunwan Base Camp, one of the principal transit facilities for pilgrims travelling via the traditional Pahalgam route. Additional accommodation units, sanitation blocks, medical camps, help centres, and public utility services have been established to cater to the anticipated influx of devotees.
The healthcare infrastructure at the camp has been significantly strengthened with the deployment of doctors, paramedics, ambulances, emergency medical teams, and specialized equipment to address medical emergencies and altitude-related health concerns. Authorities have also ensured the availability of adequate stocks of medicines and essential medical supplies.
Security arrangements were also reviewed during the inspection. Senior police and security officials briefed the Lieutenant Governor on deployment plans, surveillance systems, crowd management measures, and emergency preparedness mechanisms designed to ensure the safety and security of pilgrims throughout the yatra period.
The Lieutenant Governor stressed the need for close coordination among all departments and agencies to address any challenges promptly and maintain uninterrupted services. He directed officials to remain vigilant and responsive to the needs of pilgrims.
Special attention has also been given to sanitation and environmental management at the base camp. Authorities have deployed additional sanitation staff and installed waste management systems to maintain cleanliness and hygiene. Adequate drinking water facilities and uninterrupted power supply arrangements have also been put in place.
Officials informed the Lieutenant Governor that community kitchens (langars) established by various religious and charitable organizations are being coordinated to provide free meals and refreshments to pilgrims. The administration is ensuring that these facilities operate smoothly while adhering to safety and hygiene standards.
The annual Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra attracts lakhs of devotees from across India and abroad. The Nunwan Base Camp serves as a crucial facility for pilgrims undertaking the sacred journey through the Pahalgam route. Authorities have intensified preparations to ensure that devotees receive all necessary support and services during their pilgrimage.
The inspection forms part of a series of high-level reviews being conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Administration to monitor preparedness and ensure the successful conduct of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026.
