LG Manoj Sinha inaugurates Jammu & Kashmir textile sourcing fair-2024

JAMMU, NOVEMBER 28: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha today delivered the keynote address at the “Jammu & Kashmir Textile Sourcing Fair-2024” via virtual mode, emphasizing the growing market access and export opportunities for the region’s artisans and manufacturers.

The LG praised Jammu & Kashmir’s rich textile traditions, noting the sector’s impressive growth over the past 50 months, and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to further enhancing its development through new initiatives. He highlighted the pivotal role of the Textile Sourcing Fair in connecting local artisans, manufacturers, and entrepreneurs with national and international buyers, contributing significantly to the region’s economic growth.

“The textile sector in J&K is witnessing a resurgence. Our rich cultural and artistic heritage is globally competitive, and our artisans have demonstrated sustained excellence in creativity,” the LG said, stressing the importance of reform-oriented policies and programs designed to support the craft industry. He further mentioned the government’s efforts to improve infrastructure, provide financial assistance, and offer skill training to artisans.

Calling on national and international buyers to actively engage with J&K’s unique textile products, the LG urged them to ensure broader market access for local artisans. “We have great opportunities to work together and elevate our partnership to new heights,” he added.

The fair, organized by the Department of Industries & Commerce, J&K Trade Promotion Organization, and the Handloom Export Promotion Council, was held at SKUAST Kashmir. It served as a platform for B2B meetings, exhibitions, and workshops, providing valuable insights into market trends and fostering skill development among stakeholders.

The event was attended by key officials, including Prof. Nazir A. Ganai, Vice Chancellor of SKUAST Kashmir, Saurabh Bhagat, Commissioner Secretary of the Science & Technology Department, Vikramjit Singh, Commissioner Secretary of the Industries & Commerce Department, and Khalid Jahangir, Managing Director of JKTPO, along with artisans, entrepreneurs, and other stakeholders.
