Jammu, April 28, 2026- In a major boost to sports infrastructure in the region, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday inaugurated the Baba Jitto Indoor Stadium in Marh and the Jourian Indoor Stadium in Jammu district. The newly developed facilities aim to empower youth and strengthen the sporting ecosystem in Jammu & Kashmir.
Addressing the gathering, the Lieutenant Governor emphasized that modern sports infrastructure plays a crucial role in nurturing talent and channelizing the energy of young people towards constructive pursuits. He said the twin stadiums, equipped with state-of-the-art shooting ranges and multi-purpose indoor courts, will serve as hubs for sporting excellence and youth engagement.
“These world-class facilities are designed to inspire our youth, provide them with professional training environments, and help them compete at national and international levels,” he said. He further added that the government is committed to creating opportunities for aspiring athletes and promoting a strong sports culture across the Union Territory.
The Baba Jitto Indoor Stadium, named after the revered Dogra folk hero Baba Jitto, is equipped with modern amenities including advanced shooting infrastructure, badminton courts, and fitness areas. Similarly, the Jourian Indoor Stadium has been developed as a versatile sports complex capable of hosting multiple indoor games such as basketball, volleyball, and table tennis.
Officials highlighted that these projects are part of a broader initiative to strengthen grassroots sports and identify hidden talent in rural and semi-urban areas. The facilities are expected to provide structured training, encourage participation, and reduce the gap between urban and rural sports infrastructure.
Local residents and sports enthusiasts welcomed the initiative, expressing hope that such developments will open new avenues for youth and help them pursue professional careers in sports.
