LG Manoj Sinha: Constitution Ensured Equal Rights, Merit-Based Jobs & Dignity in J&K On 26 November 1949, we all adopted the sacred book of the country, the Constitution, through the Constituent Assembly. It was a Saturday and all the members assembled in the Constitution Hall at ten in the morning. In two years, eleven months and eighteen days, our policymakers charted a new course for the future journey of this vast nation. Just like before building a house, the architect prepares its plan. The engineer draws the layout of its pillars and walls. Similarly, our great men had created a map of India’s prosperity by choosing each word in the Constitution. I believe that each word of the Constitution was sown like a seed of development, said the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha. This is the reason why today India is the world’s fifth largest economy in the world. And in the coming days, we will become the third largest economy in the world. I also consider the Constitution to be the biggest force for development and welfare of all. The Constitution is the soul of the nation. And the wheel of development revolves around one centre of the Constitution. The Constitution is the consciousness of society. The Constitution is a social consciousness that inspires citizens to participate in the development process through civic participation. The Constitution is not just a collection of articles and rules but a guiding light for the people of India, LG said. I also see it as a thread of unity that connects geographical, linguistic and cultural diversity. I regard the Constitution as a sacred text whose ideals and values are the agreed rules for every section of society and through which we can easily forget all differences among ourselves. Therefore, truth and faith are also evident in the Constitution. The values of the Constitution give wings to the ambitions of society. The values of the Constitution give wings to the ambitions of the society and also inspire to fly in the open sky with independent thinking. The Constitution has laid the foundation of institutions that have been able to usher in a new dawn of development. I believe that our Constitution is not just a piece of paper but a strict standard of conduct. Our Constitution is our idol which has paved the way for India’s progress. This day inspires us to make the values of the Constitution our culture. And by following the ideals of those values, we should also ensure our success in the efforts for a developed India by performing our duties. By fully implementing the Constitution of India, it has been ensured in Jammu and Kashmir today that the youth here will get employment on the basis of merit only. Now no one can get a job on someone’s recommendation. The Parliament of the country has ensured that every citizen of Jammu and Kashmir cannot be deprived of the fundamental rights given by the Constitution. The Parliament of the country has ensured that every brother and sister of Jammu and Kashmir cannot be deprived of the respect, pride and dignity of citizenship. By fully implementing the Constitution in Jammu and Kashmir, it has been ensured that every citizen is given equal rights and equal opportunities and the process of development is strengthened by ensuring accountable and transparent governance in the administration. All citizens have equal rights. There was a period in which the land owner did not get ownership rights. That dream has also come true. There was a section of society which, no matter how much education they had, could not do any other work except sweeper throughout their life. Such discrimination ended with the full implementation of the Constitution of India. Our girls, half the population, have now got full rights which they did not get in Jammu and Kashmir, which girls had in other parts of the country. By fully implementing the ideals and values of the Constitution, an effort has been made to ensure that like other citizens of India, the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir can also get all the rights and facilities that are necessary to live a dignified life, said the Lieutenant Governor of J&K, Shri Manoj Sinha.
