In a significant stride toward ensuring the smooth and secure conduct of the upcoming Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2025, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha chaired a high-level meeting at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar. The meeting brought together a wide spectrum of stakeholders, including religious leaders, elected representatives, civil society members, and business leaders, underscoring the collective commitment of Jammu and Kashmir towards this revered pilgrimage, which begins on July 3 and concludes on August 9. Describing the Amarnath Yatra as a “people’s pilgrimage,” the Lieutenant Governor called upon all stakeholders to work in unison to make it a vibrant expression of spirituality, unity, and communal harmony. He highlighted the yatra’s dual significance — as a sacred spiritual journey and as a major socio-economic driver for the region. During the meeting, LG Sinha took stock of the comprehensive preparations undertaken by the Shri Amarnath Ji Shrine Board, the J&K administration, J&K Police, and central security forces. He commended their efforts in bolstering pilgrim-centric facilities, ensuring inter-agency coordination, and establishing contingency plans to tackle the challenges posed by the rugged terrain. Special emphasis was placed on the movement of yatris in designated convoys to ensure maximum safety and coordination. The LG welcomed constructive suggestions from diverse voices, including the Chairperson of the J&K Waqf Board, DDC Chairpersons, MLAs, and representatives from trade, transport, and religious organisations. Their united pledge of full cooperation reflected the yatra’s role as a unifying cultural symbol and its potential to further J&K’s ethos of inclusive growth and harmony. LG Sinha assured that the administration would proactively address the concerns raised and ensure that all stakeholders’ aspirations are met. “Jammu and Kashmir has always been a cradle of inclusive traditions and composite culture. Let us welcome the lakhs of devotees with open hearts, transcending all divisions, and make the Amarnath Yatra a reflection of our shared spiritual legacy,” the LG said. He expressed hope that, with Baba Amarnath’s blessings, the 2025 yatra would be peaceful, successful, and further cement the region’s reputation for religious harmony and resilience. The meeting also reflected on the transformative efforts made over the last four years to enhance the yatra experience. These included a community-participatory model that has made local people vital partners in its execution and success. LG Sinha said the yatra’s smooth conduct would serve as a strong message of unity and normalcy across Jammu and Kashmir. With registrations for the pilgrimage witnessing a surge, the administration has rolled out several initiatives for pilgrim convenience. These include tatkal registration, RFID tracking cards, and the establishment of 106 lodgment centers in Jammu capable of accommodating over 50,000 pilgrims. Private vehicles associated with the yatra will be permitted to travel under a comprehensive security cover, ensuring safety at every step of the sacred journey.
