Kashmir Ahead

LG Manoj Sinha calls for whole-of-society approach to eliminate drug addiction in J&K

Anantnag, May 9,2026-Jammu & Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday said that the growing challenge of drug addiction can only be eradicated through a “Whole of Society Approach,” urging every section of society to actively participate in the fight against substance abuse.

The Lieutenant Governor made these remarks while participating in a padyatra under the Drug-Free J&K Campaign in Anantnag, where he also addressed a public gathering and appealed to citizens to break their silence against the menace of drugs.

He said that every corner of the Union Territory — including schools, colleges, families, sports grounds, wards, villages and theatre platforms — must raise awareness and contribute towards building a drug-free society with collective determination.

Calling for united public action, the Lieutenant Governor stressed that people from all walks of life must speak in one voice about the harmful effects of drug addiction and support efforts aimed at protecting the youth from substance abuse.

The padyatra witnessed participation from students, youth volunteers, civil society members, officials and local residents, reflecting growing public involvement in the anti-drug movement across Jammu & Kashmir.

The administration has intensified awareness campaigns, rallies and community outreach programmes across the Union Territory under the broader mission of creating a Drug-Free J&K through prevention, awareness and rehabilitation initiatives.
