KVK Budgam and AICRP on Seed Collaborate to empower tribal farmers through Input distribution programme

Budgam, April 11, 2025 – The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Budgam, in partnership with the All India Coordinated Research Project (AICRP) on Seed (Crops) NSP, Shalimar, SKUAST-Kashmir, successfully organized an input distribution programme under the Tribal Sub-Plan (TSP) on Friday. This initiative aimed to uplift tribal farmers in the region by providing them with quality agricultural inputs to enhance productivity and promote sustainable farming practices.

The programme, held in Budgam district, focused on distributing quality seeds and other essential agricultural inputs to tribal farmers, aligning with the objectives of the Tribal Sub-Plan to support marginalized communities. The event was designed to address the challenges faced by tribal farmers, such as limited access to modern agricultural resources, and to promote crop diversification and resilience in farming.

Dr. [Name], Head of KVK Budgam, emphasized the importance of empowering tribal farmers through access to high-quality seeds and knowledge-sharing. “Our collaboration with AICRP on Seed and SKUAST-Kashmir is a step toward ensuring that tribal farmers can adopt improved agricultural practices, leading to better yields and economic stability,” he said.

Under the AICRP on Seed (Crops) NSP, quality seeds of various crops suited to the local agro-climatic conditions were distributed to ensure better germination and crop performance. The initiative also included an awareness session where farmers were educated on modern farming techniques, sustainable agriculture, and the benefits of using certified seeds.

The Tribal Sub-Plan, a government-backed initiative, aims to enhance the socio-economic conditions of tribal communities through targeted agricultural interventions. This programme reflects the commitment of KVK Budgam and its partners to bridge the gap between tribal farmers and advanced agricultural technologies.

Farmers expressed gratitude for the support, noting that the inputs would significantly boost their agricultural output. “Access to quality seeds will help us grow better crops and improve our livelihoods,” said a tribal farmer from Budgam.

The event saw active participation from local farmers, agricultural scientists, and officials from SKUAST-Kashmir, reinforcing the collaborative effort to promote inclusive agricultural development in the region. This initiative is part of a broader vision to strengthen the agricultural ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir, with a focus on empowering underserved communities.
