Shopian , May 18, 2026-Kulgam Hurricanes emerged as champions of the South Kashmir Volleyball League 2026 after defeating Anantnag Spartans in a thrilling grand final held in Shopian on Sunday.
The tournament was organised by the J&K Sports Council in association with the J&K Volleyball Association under the Nasha Mukht J&K Abhiyan, a 100-day anti-drug awareness campaign themed “Nasha Nahi, Khel Chuno.”
The league featured six teams representing Kulgam, Anantnag, Rajouri, Poonch, Pulwama and Shopian, showcasing young volleyball talent from across Jammu and Kashmir while promoting sports as a positive alternative to substance abuse.
The winner’s trophy was presented by Shabir Ahmad Kullay in the presence of civil society members, senior police officials and officials of the J&K Sports Council. The final witnessed enthusiastic participation from local sports lovers and youth.
Congratulating the winning team, Satish Sharma praised the efforts of players, organisers and officials for successfully conducting the tournament and encouraging youth participation in sports. Commissioner Secretary Youth Services & Sports Dr. Shahid Iqbal Choudhary also lauded the initiative and highlighted the importance of sports in building a healthy and drug-free society.
The South Kashmir Volleyball League 2026 was inaugurated by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on May 14 at Batapora, Shopian. The initiative aims to strengthen sports culture among youth and spread awareness against drug abuse across the region through competitive sporting events.
The successful conclusion of the volleyball league under the Nasha Mukht J&K Abhiyan has been widely appreciated for combining sports development with social awareness, encouraging young people to choose fitness, discipline and teamwork over drugs.
