Kulgam, September 15,2025: In a historic first for Kulgam district, an under-19 boys Kho-Kho match was played under floodlights at Boys Higher Secondary School Kulgam on Sunday evening. The event marked the official beginning of night sports in Kulgam, opening a new chapter for young athletes in the region.
The landmark sporting event was organised by the Youth Services and Sports Department, Kulgam, which has been working to promote grassroots sports and provide modern facilities for budding players. The introduction of floodlit matches is expected to not only enhance the sporting culture but also encourage greater participation of youth after school hours.
Local players, spectators, and sports enthusiasts turned out in large numbers to witness the match, applauding the initiative as a step forward in giving traditional Indian sports like Kho-Kho a modern platform.
Officials from the Youth Services and Sports Department said that this was just the beginning, and more night sporting events across disciplines would be organised in the coming months to nurture talent and build a vibrant sports ecosystem in Kulgam.
