Srinagar , July 30, 2025– In a significant boost to the agricultural economy of Jammu and Kashmir, the region has recorded vegetable production worth ₹1,239 crore, marking a remarkable achievement for Kashmir’s farming sector. The latest data highlights the region’s growing potential in commercial vegetable cultivation and its emerging role in the national horticulture market.
Officials from the Department of Agriculture Production & Farmers Welfare revealed that thousands of farmers across the Kashmir Valley are actively engaged in vegetable farming, producing high-value crops like cabbage, cauliflower, spinach, carrots, knol-khol, tomatoes, and beans.
This massive output not only ensures local food security but also contributes significantly to farmers’ income and rural employment generation. The produce is now being supplied to markets across North India, and in some cases, even exported, further enhancing the profitability of the sector.
Experts attribute the success to government-supported schemes, improved irrigation facilities, high-quality seeds, and increased awareness among farmers regarding modern cultivation practices.
A senior agriculture official stated, “Kashmir’s farmers are transforming agriculture into a profitable enterprise. With continued support and infrastructure development, this sector can become one of the biggest contributors to the Union Territory’s GDP.”
As Kashmir transitions from fields to fortune, the success story of its vegetable farmers stands as a testament to the region’s potential for sustainable agricultural growth and economic resilience.
