Srinagar, July 17,2025 — Kashmir’s classrooms are filled with talent, creativity, and increasing social awareness. Students across the valley are excelling in academics, sports, arts, and innovation, often making their mark at state and national levels. However, despite this growing potential, a critical gap remains — the lack of a formal platform for student voice and leadership.
Educationists and community leaders observe that while the education system in Jammu and Kashmir has advanced in infrastructure and academic achievements, there is still a pressing need to encourage student expression, foster youth participation in community dialogue, and create spaces for creative discourse.
Kashmir’s students are aware, informed, and eager to contribute, but they need structured avenues beyond the classroom — platforms where their ideas, concerns, and innovations can be recognized and heard, said a senior education officer in Srinagar.
Student councils, debate forums, and youth leadership initiatives are among the key measures suggested by experts to fill this gap. Such initiatives would not only amplify student voices but also nurture leadership skills, critical thinking, and a sense of civic responsibility among young people.
An academician from Kashmir University emphasized that a formal platform for student voice could play a pivotal role in addressing social challenges like peacebuilding, environmental conservation, and digital literacy — areas where Kashmiri youth have already shown significant engagement.
Kashmir has witnessed a rise in students winning national awards, scholarships, and participating in community-driven projects. However, without organized platforms within educational institutions, much of this talent remains untapped.
As Jammu and Kashmir aspires towards inclusive growth and youth empowerment, strengthening student engagement and creating dedicated platforms for student expression are essential steps. Harnessing the energy, talent, and awareness of Kashmir’s youth can pave the way for a more vibrant, connected, and progressive society.
