Kashmir transforms into migratory bird haven

Srinagar, December 9,2025: Every winter, Kashmir transforms into a paradise for migratory birds, as lakhs of winged visitors arrive at its lakes and wetlands, creating a spectacular natural display that attracts bird watchers and nature enthusiasts from across the world.

The Dal Lake, Wular Lake, and Hokersar Wetland are among the most popular destinations, hosting species such as bar-headed geese, mallards, common pochards, and northern pintails. These birds travel thousands of kilometers from regions like Central Asia, Siberia, and Europe, seeking the relatively warmer waters of Kashmir during the harsh winter months.

Local wildlife officials and ornithologists highlight that the arrival of migratory birds not only enhances the ecological diversity of the region but also provides opportunities for eco-tourism and research. They urge visitors to respect the fragile habitats and avoid disturbing the birds during their stay.

The spectacle of thousands of birds gliding over the serene waters against the backdrop of snow-capped mountains makes Kashmir a unique winter haven, offering a breathtaking treat for photographers, bird lovers, and tourists alike.
