Kashmir through their eyes: Muzaffar & Shaad Ali

Kashmir,November 22,2025-Celebrated filmmaker Muzaffar Ali and his son, noted director Shaad Ali, offered heartfelt reflections on dreams, memory and their deep emotional connection with Kashmir during a special conversation at a cultural forum. The father–son duo, known for their distinct cinematic styles, spoke about the Valley’s enduring influence on Indian art and storytelling.

Muzaffar Ali, revered for his poetic filmmaking and timeless visual language, described Kashmir as a land where “memories breathe in colours,” adding that the region has always inspired artists with its natural beauty, cultural richness and emotional depth. He reflected on how Kashmir shaped his creative imagination over the decades.

Shaad Ali, known for films blending realism with contemporary flair, echoed his father’s sentiments, noting that Kashmir represents both nostalgia and new creative opportunities. He said the Valley’s unique landscapes and human stories offer a canvas unlike any other, encouraging filmmakers to explore themes of longing, resilience and identity.

Both directors emphasised the importance of preserving Kashmir’s cultural heritage through cinema, literature and the arts. Their dialogue highlighted the generational continuity of artistic inspiration and the way Kashmir continues to influence storytellers across time.

They concluded by expressing hope that more filmmakers will engage with Kashmir not only as a backdrop, but as an emotional and narrative force in itself—where dreams, memory and lived experiences merge to create compelling stories.
