Srinagar, 28 November 2025 — Srinagar shivered as the mercury dropped to -4.5°C, marking the lowest November temperature in the city since 2007. Frost spread across the valley, covering rooftops, roads, and fields in a delicate white layer, signaling an early and harsh onset of winter.
Sub-zero temperatures were reported not only in Srinagar but also in areas across the valley, including Qazigund, Kupwara, Ganderbal, and Pahalgam. Local authorities have issued advisories urging residents to take precautions to protect homes, livestock, and vulnerable populations.
“The early frost and sharp drop in temperatures are unusual for this time of year,” said a meteorologist from the India Meteorological Department . “Residents should prepare for cold waves and ensure heating arrangements, especially for children and the elderly.”
The Jammu & Kashmir administration has also instructed public services, including schools, hospitals, and transport departments, to remain vigilant. Road safety measures are being reinforced, particularly on high-altitude passes where frost and icy conditions can pose risks.
Local farmers expressed concern as the sudden cold could affect standing crops and orchards, while tourism authorities warned visitors to carry appropriate winter gear if traveling to hill stations such as Gulmarg, Sonamarg, and Pahalgam.
Weather forecasts suggest that sub-zero conditions may continue for the next few days, with a possibility of scattered snowfall at higher altitudes. Authorities have urged residents to exercise caution and follow official advisories.
