Srinagar, November 10,2025:Winter chill has officially arrived in the Valley, as Srinagar recorded its first sub-zero temperature of the season at -0.1°C on Sunday night. The sharp drop marks the beginning of freezing mornings and frosty nights across Kashmir, with most places witnessing a significant decline in minimum temperatures.
According to the Meteorological Department (MeT), the mercury dipped below freezing at several stations, with Pahalgam and Shopian recording the lowest at -3.2°C, followed by Budgam and Baramulla at -2.8°C. Other key locations like Kupwara (-1.2°C), Pampore (-2.5°C), Bandipora (-2.0°C), and Sonamarg (-2.6°C) also remained under freezing conditions.
Even popular tourist destinations such as Gulmarg (-0.2°C) and Qazigund (-0.9°C) experienced a biting chill, signalling that the Valley is steadily moving towards the onset of winter.
In the Jammu region, the temperatures remained relatively mild, with Jammu City recording 11.5°C, Katra 11.0°C, and Udhampur 6.2°C, while Banihal touched 0.0°C, indicating early signs of cold weather in the higher reaches.
The MeT office predicts further drop in temperatures in the coming days, with possible frost formation in many low-lying areas of the Valley. Locals have started preparing for the chill, stocking up on traditional winter essentials like ‘kangris’ and warm clothing.
As the mercury continues to slide, the beautiful yet biting cold is a reminder that Kashmir’s winter charm—with snow-covered peaks and frozen lakes—is just around the corner.
