JAMMU, April 17, 2025 – Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, alongside Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, inaugurated a week-long mega surgical camp on April 17, 2025, across Associated Hospital of Government Medical College Doda, District Hospital Kishtwar, and Sub-District Hospital Bhaderwah. Organised by Rotary International in collaboration with the District Administrations of Doda and Kishtwar and the Department of Health & Medical Education, the camp underscores the Jammu and Kashmir administration’s Health for All mission by providing free super-specialty and general surgeries to underserved communities.
Omar Abdullah emphasised the administration’s commitment to universal healthcare, stating, “Under the guidance of LG Manoj Sinha, we’ve revolutionised healthcare access in J&K by enhancing infrastructure and ensuring timely, quality services for all.” Sinha, who has championed healthcare reforms, added, “This camp is a milestone in our journey to bring advanced medical care to every doorstep, especially in remote areas.” The camp, running until April 24, 2025, offers consultations, diagnostics, and complex surgeries, building on successful initiatives in Rajouri and Poonch.
The initiative reflects significant upgrades at facilities like GMC Doda, District Hospital Kishtwar, and SDH Bhaderwah, enabling them to host specialized medical camps. Divisional Commissioner Jammu, Ramesh Kumar, who reviewed preparations on March 3, 2025, ensured seamless logistics and outreach to rural residents. Deputy Commissioners of Doda and Kishtwar, in coordination with health officials, prioritized beneficiaries with limited access to advanced care.
A team of expert doctors from across India, supported by local health staff, is conducting surgeries, earning praise on X as a “lifeline” for rural J&K. The camp aligns with broader healthcare reforms under Sinha’s oversight, including expanded medical education, increased funding, and strengthened primary care systems to reduce reliance on tertiary hospitals. Support from the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, has further bolstered these efforts, improving health outcomes across the Union Territory.
Omar Abdullah and Manoj Sinha’s shared vision for equitable healthcare drives this camp, showcasing J&K’s commitment to delivering world-class medical services to all.
