JKEDI organises industrial visit for MDP trainees to manufacturing units in Bari Brahmana

Jammu, April 26, 2025 – The Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute , in collaboration with Mr. Lalit Mahajan, Chairman of the Bari Brahmana Industries Association (BBIA), organised a dynamic industrial visit for Management Development Programme trainees to several manufacturing units in the Bari Brahmana Industrial Area, Jammu. The initiative aimed to provide hands-on exposure to industrial operations, foster entrepreneurial skills, and highlight opportunities for aspiring entrepreneurs in the region’s MSME sector.

The visit, facilitated by the District Industries Centre Jammu and BBIA, offered MDP trainees a unique opportunity to explore the industrial ecosystem of Bari Brahmana, a key manufacturing hub in Jammu and Kashmir. Guided by Mr. Lalit Mahajan, a prominent advocate for industrial growth, the trainees toured prominent manufacturing facilities, engaged with industry leaders, and gained insights into production processes, market strategies, and the role of MSMEs in driving economic development.

“This industrial visit underscores JKEDI’s commitment to equipping young entrepreneurs with practical knowledge,” said a JKEDI representative. “With Mr. Lalit Mahajan’s support and BBIA’s collaboration, our trainees experienced firsthand the innovation and resilience of Jammu’s industrial sector, inspiring them to pursue entrepreneurial ventures.” The program aligns with JKEDI’s efforts under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance scheme, which seeks to enhance MSME competitiveness through access to finance, technology, and markets.

Mr. Lalit Mahajan, who also serves as Convener of the Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) Jammu Chapter, addressed the trainees, emphasizing the potential of Bari Brahmana as a hub for manufacturing and export-oriented industries. “Jammu and Kashmir’s industrial sector is on an upward trajectory, and young entrepreneurs can play a pivotal role in this growth,” Mahajan said. He highlighted BBIA’s advocacy for fiscal incentives, infrastructure upgrades, and initiatives like Udyam Registration to support MSMEs, noting the region’s ₹5,319.35 crore in industrial investments post-Article 370.

The trainees visited diverse manufacturing units, including those producing consumer goods, engineering products, and beverages, such as facilities linked to the Jaipuria Group, a major supplier of PepsiCo products in Jammu and Kashmir. These visits showcased operational workflows, quality control measures, and the application of modern technologies. Interactive sessions with unit owners allowed trainees to discuss entrepreneurial challenges, funding opportunities under schemes like GST-linked incentives, and the importance of market access through platforms like buyer-seller meets.

Participants praised the visit as a “transformative experience,” with one trainee noting, “Seeing real-world operations and learning from industry experts has given me the confidence to start my own venture.” The collaboration between JKEDI, BBIA, and DIC Jammu reflects a shared vision of nurturing entrepreneurship and aligning with the Viksit Bharat goal of inclusive economic growth.

The industrial visit builds on JKEDI’s recent initiatives, such as the RAMP Awareness Workshop in Poonch, and underscores its role in empowering youth through skill development and industry exposure. As Jammu and Kashmir continues to attract investment and strengthen its industrial base, such programs are critical in preparing the next generation to contribute to the Union Territory’s economic transformation.
