JKEDI conducts entrepreneurship orientation program for MIET college students in Jammu

Jammu, Jammu & Kashmir, May 3, 2025 – The Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute held an Entrepreneurship Orientation Program for students of Model Institute of Engineering and Technology College, Jammu, on Friday, May 2, 2025, at its Bari Brahamana Campus. Organised under the J&K Startup Policy 2024-27, the program aimed to ignite entrepreneurial spirit and equip students with the skills to thrive in the Union Territory’s growing startup ecosystem.

The EOP engaged MIET students through sessions on key entrepreneurial concepts, including business plan development, financial planning, and accessing support under schemes like the Seed Capital Fund Scheme and Youth Startup Loan Scheme. JKEDI faculty emphasized the J&K Startup Policy 2024-27, launched in March 2024 to support 500 new startups by 2027, highlighting its vision to position Jammu and Kashmir as a hub for innovation. Students also gained insights into preparing Detailed Project Reports and leveraging mentorship for sustainable ventures.

A highlight of the program was an interactive session with local entrepreneurs, who shared their journeys of building businesses in Jammu and Kashmir’s dynamic environment. This inspired students to consider entrepreneurship as a viable career path, with many expressing enthusiasm for launching their own ventures. The event was facilitated by JKEDI’s Centre for New Enterprise Creation and Centre for Business Development, underscoring the institute’s role in fostering grassroots innovation.

Established in 1997, JKEDI has been a driving force in promoting entrepreneurship across Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh. Its recent partnerships with institutions like the Central University of Jammu and mentorship programs with Tata Institute of Social Sciences reflect its commitment to building a robust startup ecosystem. The EOP resonates with regional stories of resilience, such as the academic achievements in Anantnag and Srinagar, and aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s message of unity as India’s greatest strength.

The program received widespread praise on social media, with posts celebrating JKEDI’s efforts to empower youth. Hashtags like JKEDI, MIET College, and Startup Policy 2024 gained traction, reflecting community support for innovation-driven initiatives. MIET College faculty commended the program’s practical approach, noting its role in preparing students for entrepreneurial challenges in a region facing issues like recent landslides on the Srinagar-Jammu National Highway.

As Jammu and Kashmir advances toward a startup-driven economy, JKEDI’s EOP at MIET College marks a significant step in empowering students to innovate locally. The institute plans to expand such programs across the Union Territory, ensuring the J&K Startup Policy 2024-27 creates lasting opportunities for the youth.
