Jammu, April 26, 2025 – The Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute has rolled out Management Development Programs under the Raising and Accelerating MSME Performance scheme at its district centres in Jammu, Rajouri, Srinagar, and Poonch. These week-long, 30-hour training initiatives, which began on April 15, 2025, aim to empower Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises by enhancing managerial, financial, and strategic skills to boost competitiveness and foster sustainable growth.
In Jammu, the program was inaugurated by the Additional District Development Commissioner, who highlighted entrepreneurship’s role in local economic growth and praised JKEDI’s efforts in strengthening the MSME ecosystem. The Poonch MDP, engaging 20 local entrepreneurs, focuses on providing real-time business management know-how. Srinagar saw 20 candidates enrolled in a six-day program, while Rajouri’s MDP is part of JKEDI’s broader outreach to upskill MSME owners in border districts. These programs, coordinated by JKEDI’s district centers, facilitate interaction with experts from various line departments to improve market access, technology adoption, and financial inclusion.
The RAMP scheme, a World Bank-supported initiative by the Ministry of MSME, Government of India, targets capacity building for MSMEs across Jammu and Kashmir. With a budgetary allocation of ₹4.17 crore for 334 MDPs over 2024–2027, JKEDI aims to train 6,672 MSME beneficiaries, ensuring 33% participation from women and SC/ST categories. The Jammu and Kashmir Trade Promotion Organization (JKTPO), the nodal agency for RAMP, oversees implementation, aligning with the Industries and Commerce Department’s goals to formalize MSMEs through Udyam Registration, promote GI/ODOP products, and establish producer companies under cluster development programs.
Director JKEDI emphasised the strategic importance of MDPs, stating, “These programs address on-ground challenges faced by MSMEs, from skilling to market access, ensuring they become more competitive and resilient.” The initiative complements other RAMP interventions, including Entrepreneurship Skill Development Programmes , buyer-seller meets, and the establishment of a J&K MSMEs Health Clinic. Amid heightened security concerns following the Pahalgam terror attack on April 22, 2025, these programs underscore efforts to bolster economic resilience in border areas like Poonch and Rajouri, where communities are also preparing for potential cross-border tensions.
