Kashmir, May 22, 2025-The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education has announced a revised academic schedule, restoring the traditional March-November academic session for classes 9th to 12th across Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh Union Territories, effective from the 2025 academic year. The decision, formalized through a notification by the Director Academics JKBOSE, aligns with a government order dated November 6, 2024, and addresses stakeholder concerns while adapting to the region’s climatic diversity.
For Kashmir Division, winter zone areas of Jammu Division, and Ladakh, the 2024-25 academic session will run from March to November 2025, with annual regular examinations for classes 9th, 10th, 11th, and 12th scheduled for October-November 2025. Results are expected in January 2026. For summer zones in Jammu Division, the 2025-26 session will span March to April 2026, with exams in March-April 2026. This reverses a 2022 notification, reinstating the pre-existing calendar disrupted by weather-related challenges in 2024, such as heavy rain and snowfall.
The revised schedule accommodates the region’s climatic conditions, with October-November exams suited for winter zones and March-April for summer zones. Over 1.45 lakh students appeared for the 2025 Class 10 exams (79.94% pass rate) and 93,000 for Class 12 (74.8% pass rate), with girls outperforming boys. The decision ensures minimal disruption for students and schools, with results for winter zones expected in January 2026, allowing time for higher education planning or compartment exams.
