Srinagar, Feburary 17,2026- Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday expressed confidence that Jammu and Kashmir will be free of violence by 2029, asserting that the Union Territory is steadily moving towards lasting peace and development.
Addressing a public gathering, the Home Minister said incidents of violence in Jammu and Kashmir have reduced by more than 80 per cent since the abrogation of Article 370 in August 2019. He credited coordinated security efforts, strengthened intelligence networks, and developmental initiatives for the significant improvement in the overall security scenario.
Shah stated that the government remains committed to ensuring long-term peace, stability, and prosperity in the region. “The decline in terror-related incidents, infiltration attempts, and civilian casualties reflects the positive transformation underway in Jammu and Kashmir,” he said.
He further highlighted that youth engagement in sports, education, entrepreneurship, and employment opportunities has increased considerably over the past few years. According to him, grassroots democracy has also been strengthened through local body elections and enhanced public participation in governance.
The Union Home Minister reiterated that the government’s focus remains on eliminating terrorism completely while accelerating infrastructure development, tourism revival, and investment in the Union Territory. He emphasised that sustained peace will pave the way for economic growth and improved quality of life for residents.
Officials noted that security forces have intensified counter-terror operations while development projects in roads, railways, healthcare, and education continue at a rapid pace.
Shah concluded by expressing optimism that with continued cooperation between security agencies, administration, and the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the goal of a violence-free region by 2029 will be achieved.
