Kashmir, February 17,2026- The Jammu and Kashmir Government has informed that 1.64 lakh youth have been trained under various skill development schemes over the past three years, aiming to enhance employability and promote entrepreneurship across the Union Territory.
According to official data, the training programmes were conducted under multiple centrally and UT-sponsored initiatives, focusing on market-driven skills, self-employment opportunities, and industry-oriented courses.
Focus on Employability & Entrepreneurship
The government stated that the schemes are designed to equip young people with practical skills in sectors such as information technology, healthcare, tourism, handicrafts, construction, retail, and agriculture. Special emphasis has also been laid on women empowerment and rural youth participation.
Several candidates have reportedly been linked to placement opportunities, while others have been supported in launching their own ventures through financial assistance and handholding mechanisms.
Major Skill Development Initiatives
Among the prominent schemes implemented in J&K are:
- Pradhan Mantri Kaushal Vikas Yojana (PMKVY)
- Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Grameen Kaushalya Yojana (DDU-GKY)
- Himayat
- Jammu and Kashmir Skill Development Mission
Officials said these initiatives are being implemented through Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs), polytechnics, and accredited training partners across districts.
Government’s Commitment
The administration reiterated its commitment to strengthening the skilling ecosystem by aligning courses with industry demands and expanding digital and technical training facilities. Efforts are also underway to improve placement tracking systems and industry partnerships.
With a strong push towards youth empowerment and economic self-reliance, the government believes the skill development drive will play a key role in reducing unemployment and accelerating economic growth in Jammu and Kashmir.
