The Jammu & Kashmir Police is gearing up to organize the “Run for Fun – Jammu Marathon-2025” on March 16, 2025, at Gulshan Ground, Jammu, as part of its Civic Action Programme (CAP). This inclusive event, designed to engage participants from all walks of life, promises to foster community spirit and promote fitness across the region.
A Grand Event Under Civic Action Programme
Announced today, the Jammu Marathon-2025 will take place at Gulshan Ground, a central venue in Jammu, under the aegis of the J&K Police’s CAP, which aims to strengthen public-police relations through community initiatives. The marathon, set for March 16, will feature a diverse range of categories catering to men, women, children, veterans, and senior citizens. Preparations are in full swing, with a high-level meeting held at the Armed Police Headquarters (APHQ) in Jammu to ensure its success.
Strategic Planning Led by Senior Officers
The preparatory meeting was chaired by Sh. Anand Jain, IPS, ADGP Armed Police and Chairman of the event, who issued detailed instructions to ensure seamless execution. Kuldeep Handoo, DySP Sports APHQ, briefed attendees with a PowerPoint presentation outlining planned activities and logistics. The meeting saw participation from senior officers, including Ms. Sarah Rizvi, IPS, DIG IRP Jammu; Sh. Sandeep Gupta, IPS, DPT J&K; Sh. Zahid Naseem Manhas, IPS, CO UTDRF 2nd Bn; Sh. Joginder Singh, SSP Jammu; and others, reflecting a coordinated effort across police units.
Diverse Categories for All Ages
The marathon is open to participants from all backgrounds, including students from various schools, ensuring broad community involvement. The event categories include:
- 21 KM Half Marathon (Men)
- 10 KM Road Race Women (Above 18 years)
- 10 KM Road Race Boys (Under 18 years)
- 10 KM Road Race Veteran Women (Above 45 years)
- 10 KM Road Race Veteran Men (Above 45 years)
- 5 KM Sub-Junior Boys (Under 14 years)
- 4 KM Sub-Junior Girls (Under 14 years)
- 2 KM Run for Fun (Senior Citizens, Men, Women, & Children)
This variety underscores the event’s aim to promote fitness and unity across generations.
Event Schedule and Logistics
Participants are required to assemble at Gulshan Ground by 05:00 hours on March 16 for scrutiny and distribution of chest numbers and T-shirts, starting at 05:30 hours. The races, beginning with the 21 KM Half Marathon, will be flagged off by the Chief Guest and senior officers from 06:45 hours onward, staggered to accommodate all categories. Post-race, a prize distribution ceremony will celebrate the winners, followed by a raffle draw of chest numbers, offering cash prizes for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place recipients, adding an element of excitement.
Registration Made Accessible
To facilitate participation, eight registration counters have been established—six in Jammu city and two in Srinagar city—making it convenient for residents across the Union Territory to sign up. This strategic placement reflects the police’s commitment to inclusivity and outreach, encouraging widespread engagement from both urban and rural areas.
