J&K LG Manoj Sinha’s vision for strengthening J&K police and internal security

The Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, recently attended the Passing Out Parade of 61 probationary Deputy Superintendents of Police at the Police Academy in Udhampur. In his address, he highlighted the crucial role that J&K Police plays in the region’s security landscape, underscoring the importance of professionalism, innovation, and technological advancements in tackling modern-day challenges. He congratulated the new officers, recognising the immense responsibility they were about to undertake. He emphasised that from the moment they stepped into their roles, these young officers would be entrusted with ensuring internal security, combating terrorism, and maintaining the rule of law in a region that has faced significant challenges. He assured them that the nation was placing its trust in their abilities to protect citizens and uphold the integrity of the country. He also expressed confidence that they would succeed in their future missions. The Lieutenant Governor paid tribute to the sacrifices made by the brave personnel of the Jammu & Kashmir Police and other security forces, who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Their courage, he noted, has been essential in maintaining peace and security in the region, despite the highly volatile environment in which the J&K Police operates. Acknowledging the evolving nature of security threats, Shri Sinha focused on the new challenges posed by modern technologies. He pointed out that threats like cyber-attacks, disinformation campaigns, and narco-terrorism are growing concerns. The role of AI and other technological tools in combating these threats has become indispensable, he stated. However, he also noted that these technologies bring new challenges, such as deep fakes and the manipulation of social media, which could further destabilise the region. The Lieutenant Governor urged the newly trained officers to embrace innovation and use advanced technological tools to stay ahead of such challenges. He stressed the importance of shifting from a reactive approach to a proactive one in policing, with the goal of anticipating and neutralizing threats before they can escalate. He also highlighted the significance of using technology to monitor and respond to security concerns in real-time. He further addressed the growing menace of narco-terrorism, social media manipulation, and disinformation campaigns, which are increasingly being used to destabilise societies and harm national security. He called upon the young police officers to develop new ideas, tools, and strategies to counter these modern threats effectively, while also focusing on issues like drug trafficking, cyber-crime, and radicalisation. The Lieutenant Governor emphasized that the role of the J&K Police extends beyond neutralizing terrorists. It also involves tackling divisive elements that fuel terrorism and separatism, and ensuring that every crime is investigated thoroughly, leading to successful prosecutions. He urged the officers to ensure that the investigative process reaches its logical conclusion, as effective investigation and prosecution are key components of successful policing. Finally, he commended the J&K Police for its efforts in civil action programs, which help build stronger community relations and ensure that policing remains people-centric. The event also included the ceremonial salute, an inspection of the parade, and the felicitation of those who excelled during their training. An oath was administered to the newly minted DySPs, affirming their commitment to performing their duties with integrity and dedication.
