Kashmir,October 18,2025-In a significant step towards strengthening cultural and spiritual ties, Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha arrived in the Republic of Kalmykia, Russia, on Friday. The Lieutenant Governor landed in Elista, the capital city of Kalmykia, as part of his visit to the only region in Europe where Buddhism is the predominant religion.
The visit carries a profound spiritual and cultural significance. During his stay, LG Manoj Sinha is expected to pay obeisance to the holy relics of Lord Buddha, reflecting India’s deep-rooted connection with the teachings of Buddhism and its global influence.
The itinerary also includes high-level diplomatic and community interactions. The Lieutenant Governor is scheduled to meet Mr. Batu Sergeyevich Khasikov, the Head of the Republic of Kalmykia, who also holds the title of Head of the Buddhists of Kalmykia.
In addition, Mr. Sinha will meet the Shajin Lama (Supreme Lama) of Kalmykia, venerable monks, and local devotees, further underlining the focus on interfaith dialogue and people-to-people engagement.
The visit highlights efforts to reinforce the unique cultural bridge between India—the birthplace of Buddhism—and Kalmykia, a region known for its vibrant Buddhist traditions. The engagements are expected to foster mutual understanding, spiritual cooperation, and new avenues for cultural exchange between the two regions.
