Jammu & Kashmir LG Shri Manoj Sinha inaugurated the logo, website, and teaser for the first-ever Kashmir Marathon, set to take place on October 20th in Srinagar. In his address, he lauded the efforts of the J&K tourism department and all stakeholders involved in organising this international running event. He extended a warm invitation to runners worldwide to participate and experience the unique allure of Jammu and Kashmir. “We aspire to make this event a beacon of peace and harmony. I am confident that the Kashmir Marathon will place J&K firmly on the global running map and enhance global recognition of the Union Territory, highlighting our potential as a premier tourist destination,” the LG stated. The Kashmir Marathon is the latest addition to a series of world-class events in J&K, following the successful F4 racing event in Srinagar, the Sunburn Music Festival in Jammu, and the J&K Tourism Development Conclave recently held in Srinagar. He also revealed plans to explore the possibility of organising an annual ‘Jammu Marathon.’ Highlighting the socio-economic impact of the marathon, he emphasised that the event would boost local businesses, including hotels, restaurants, and souvenir shops, thereby contributing to the region’s prosperity. “For centuries, sports have been the most powerful bridge connecting people of different cultures and languages. The Kashmir Marathon will integrate cultural events, performances, and exhibitions to showcase Kashmir’s rich heritage, enhancing the experience for all participants,” he said. Further articulated that the Kashmir Marathon is not just a race but a celebration of resilience, beauty, and the indomitable human spirit. He underscored that the event would celebrate Kashmir’s breathtaking scenery and promote eco-friendly tourism, benefiting local communities. On this occasion, he also highlighted the efforts of the UT Administration, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to revolutionise the sports sector in J&K. He called upon the youth of J&K to seize the opportunities provided by the government in sports and other sectors, encouraging them to become brand ambassadors of J&K. The Kashmir Marathon will feature two categories: a full marathon covering 42 kilometers and a half marathon spanning 21 kilometers. The proposed route will guide runners through some of the region’s most picturesque landscapes, including Chinar trees, Mughal gardens, and the serene Dal Lake. The Kashmir Marathon promises to be a landmark event, celebrating the region’s natural beauty, cultural heritage, and the spirit of its people. It aims to place J&K prominently on the global map of premier marathon destinations, fostering peace, harmony, and economic growth through sports tourism.
