Srinagar, September 9,2025 : The 2nd International Conference on Hangul and Other Threatened Ungulate Conservation (2IHUC 2025) will commence tomorrow at the Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Kashmir (SKUAST-K), Srinagar.
The three-day event, scheduled from September 10 to 12, will focus on the conservation of the Critically Endangered Kashmir Red Deer (Hangul) and other threatened ungulates across the globe. The conference is being organized by SKUAST-K in collaboration with the International Support and Alliance for the Central Asian Red Deer.
Hon’ble Lieutenant Governor of Jammu and Kashmir, Shri Manoj Sinha, will grace the inaugural session at the Shalimar Convention Centre of SKUAST-K on September 10 at 11:00 am.
Key themes of the conference include conservation sciences, population dynamics, climate change adaptation, and management of human–wildlife conflict. Delegates, experts, and conservationists from India and abroad will participate in deliberations aimed at developing strategies for protecting Hangul and other endangered species.
The last major conference dedicated to Hangul conservation was held in Srinagar in 2013. With Hangul being the only surviving subspecies of Red Deer in the Indian subcontinent, the upcoming conference is expected to provide a renewed impetus to conservation initiatives in Jammu and Kashmir.
