Kashmir ,November 7, 2025- India joyously commemorated the 150th anniversary of the iconic national song Vande Mataram, penned by the legendary Rishi Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay in 1875. As the Lieutenant Governor of Jammu & Kashmir, I had the profound honor of attending the grand celebration organized by the Department of Culture, Government of India. This event was a heartfelt homage to the visionary who wove the unbreakable bond between Maa Bharti and her devoted sons and daughters, igniting the flames of freedom that propelled our nation toward independence. The atmosphere was electric with patriotic fervor. The event featured a striking poster heralding the 150th year, detailing the proceedings for related programs, including a notable session on January 7, 2025, at Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Delhi.
It showcased Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressing the nation from the podium in his signature white kurta, alongside the elegantly designed book cover of Vande Mataram released by the Ministry of Culture. On stage, a majestic banner dominated the backdrop, adorned with a large portrait of Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. Dignitaries, including the Prime Minister, stood proudly holding commemorative books, surrounded by vibrant flowers and garlands—a true symbol of reverence.A highlight was the unveiling of a sleek black plaque marking the 150th year of our National Song, inscribed in both Hindi and English.
Flanked by gentlemen in traditional attire, the plaque stood beside a draped curtain echoing the colors of our Tricolor, evoking a sense of solemn pride. The auditorium brimmed with energy as a diverse audience—clad in suits, kurtas, and uniforms—raised their hands in thunderous applause, their faces alight with enthusiasm against the blue stage backdrop.Vande Mataram is not merely a song; it is the soul-stirring anthem that fueled the Swadeshi movement and united millions in the quest for freedom. Bankim Chandra’s masterpiece from Anandamath continues to resonate, reminding us of our sacred duty to the motherland. Our unwavering commitment and dedication to Maa Bharti will undoubtedly propel our nation toward its destined glory—a Viksit Bharat, developed and prosperous. The young generation must embrace their role as inheritors of this unparalleled civilization. Their contributions to society’s progress and prosperity will be the most fitting tribute to our beloved motherland.
